Colorado
Oh hey - did you miss me? It’s been a little bit since we posted a blog but I am back with one :-)
Let’s talk about the trip we took before Hawaii… Colorado!! But stay tuned cause the Hawaii blog post is in the works.
Our Adventure Chronicles
If you haven’t gathered by now, one of my absolute favorite things to do is travel with my best friend.
And a few years ago, he got me a camera for my birthday, and let’s just say I’ve put it to good use. Well, I suppose I might be biased.
October 2022
we went to Fairplay, Colorado. Fairplay is a small town, with no more than 750 people. They’re known for being the “Trout Fishing Capital” and THE real South Park.
Our cabin was a hidden realm surrounded by trees and mountains (featured in the pictures above). Now, we didn’t come here with any plans or intentions of doing anything - if you thought that sounds like a trip Zakhary planned, you’re getting to know us better. In all seriousness, we simply wanted to get away from our home life. Not that home was bad, but we were planning this trip when I was still working at the hospital. And if you read, “the talking plants” post you are familiar with my job at the hospital and what it was doing to me mentally. I had been contemplating leaving the hospital but was still super unsure and actually, on this trip was when I decided to quit my job. Many conversations with Zakhary and me, myself, and own thoughts. This trip gave us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in being present.
And that’s exactly what we did.
We took our dog, Bonzo on this adventure and he enjoyed himself just as much as we did, if not more. It was his first time traveling in the car for that long and he couldn’t have done better. He slept on Zakhary’s lap 90% of the time. Another first for the little guy, experiencing snow! The snow was definitely unexpected but we should’ve known since we were at a higher elevation and it was late October. I surprisingly enjoyed the snow and maybe before would’ve been bummed and looked at it as ruining the trip. But as I’ve preached I’m trying to improve my mindset and have more positive thoughts so the snow just added to the trip! It was very pretty and another plus - I was able to get some of my best-loved pictures and videos.
Cabin life consisted of cooking meals together, getting my ass kicked in monopoly, snuggling up next to the fireplace, watching movies, exploring the nature Colorado had to offer, finding new coffee shops, and of course vibing to the tunes.
It all eventually had to come to an end and five days later, it was time to go home.
But, the adventures did not stop there.
Next adventure - Flat tire
Still being positive!
The day we were planning on leaving, Zakhary went outside and noticed we had a flat tire. Zakhary put on our spare tire and we mosied down the mountain to an auto shop. We turned it in and they told us it wouldn’t be finished until late that afternoon. We were hoping it wouldn’t take as long as they said since we were trying to get home. Although, this did give us the time to go get breakfast. We went to a little hole in the wall; somewhere we have been before while previously visiting Colorado. We had to add it to the list of places where people are impressed with how much Zakhary eats. I’ve told him before that since we’ve been together for so long I sort of forget that most humans don’t consume that much food in one sitting. So it’s always funny to see people’s reactions to something I’ve grown so used to.
We finished breakfast and headed back to the auto shop. We thought we’d be waiting for hours but en route, we got a call from the shop stating the tire was done.
This positive attitude must’ve manifested.
And we were on our way.
Always a good time in Fairplay, Colorado.
